The Community-wide Clinical Guidelines Initiative is a collaborative project of the Monroe County Medical Society (MCMS).

The goal of the Initiative is to help enhance the quality and value of local health care by providing physicians, other healh care professsionals and patients/consumers with information and tools that reinforce evidence based health care. 

The aims of the Initiative are to:

  • distill and summarize information from national guidelines and medical research into local recommendations
  • develop and disseminate provider tools (chart documentation forms/checklists, clinical algorithms) and consumer resources (in English as well as Spanish) and
  • help facilitate local interventions

all of which underscore evidence based health care. 

The Initiative is overseen by a Steering Committee comprised of medical and nursing leadership from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Greater Rochester Independent Practice Association, Monroe County Health Department, MCMS, The Monroe Plan, Preferred Care, Rochester General Health System, Rochester Individual Practice Association, Thompson Health, University of Rochester Medical Center/Strong Health, Unity Health, and Eastman Kodak Company.  Jack McIntyre, MD, Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, University of Rochester Medical Center, Past President, American Psychiatric Association and Rochester Academy of Medicine, member of the AMA's Council on Medical Service and Board member of the MCMS, chairs the Initiative.

Guidelines are developed by Specialty Advisory Committees, groups of local general and specialty physicians and other health care professionals and they are reviewed for revision every two years.
